The Rake - A taproom to showcase beers brewed with Admiral’s malts.
Brand Strategy Brand Identity Print Collateral Art Direction Interior Finishes Signage
Every beer needs malt, and with the craft beer industry booming in California, three brewers in the San Francisco Bay Area joined together to construct a malt factory on a retired Navy base in Alameda. With malt being in high demand, they needed a big enough space to be able to lay the grain on a heated floor to bake and rake out to cook through. The space for the malt factory is in a repurposed Navy supply warehouse which we evolved into the branding for Admiral Maltings and their taproom called “The Rake.” On tap are all the beers made with Admiral’s malt which you can watch the floor baking process while sitting at the snug booth sipping on a fresh IPA.
In branding the space with the guys at Gamut, we worked with a fabricator to bring our interior finishes to life. We sand blasted the metals to have a softer matte appearance, giving the custom tap handles we painted center stage. Then repurposing raw materials from the building as lighting, furniture, signage, and old fire hoses. Our color palette was soft to compliment the industrial woods and steal. Above the bar we added a ghost sign of the Admiral Maltings brand to bring it back to the war era and to give it a hand painted feel.
